It wasnТt very busy at first but more kids kept coming in. when I got taken to the under 5Тs I met Karen Doyle who is in charge of the programme. I also met Emma Winter who works with the kids. I had fun playing with the kids. The kids then left around 12:00pm and I helped tidy and put away the toys. Afterwards, at approximately 12:20pm I sat in a fundraising meeting which was lead by Abdullah Siad about the funding of the under 5Тs project. The meeting then lasted 25minutes and I went and took my lunch brake at 12:45pm which ended at 1:30pm. I then got given a desk and computer to work at where I met Haley OТConnor and Celia Facey who is in charge of the out of school club project. Hayley then gave me a few jobs to do like photocopying and putting things together. I also got to help Celia make a healthy menu for children. At 4:00pm I was taken down to the hall where the kids for the after school club were. They got to watch TV and play games. There was also a pool table which was interesting for me because I never played it before and got taught and beaten at a game by an 8 year old boy. This project lasted until 6:00pm and I had fun playing and taking care of the kids. My first day of work ever was tiring but fun. Tuesday 6th July The next day I arrived at 12:30pm where I was given an office to work at. I did a number of things such as photocopying. I also learnt about the СeYSТ which is an end of session recording sheet which I also helped put together. At 4:00pm I went down to the out of school club which takes place in the hall. With the children I played a mixture of games such as hockey, hand ball and cannon. The children learnt how to work as a team through communication skills and how to control the ball with a hockey stick. Also with hand ball the children had to use skills like dribbling with the ball. The game cannon is to knock over some sticks with a tennis ball, this helps the kids with the aiming skills and catching. Wednesday 7th July When I arrived at 12:30 Paul gave me some work to do, I had a task to plan a draft fundraising proposal for both the out of school club and under 5Тs drop in. this had to help increase the number of members in both projects. The draft had to focus on an activity and that would also appeal to those beneficiaries that I wished to deliver the service to parents/carers as well as the children. This would also include a budget that had to cover the cost of delivering the project. After this I went to go work with Celia Facey with the out of school club again and we played some more ball games. We did a few little activities and games like dodge ball, handball and bulldog. Thursday 8th July When I arrived at 12:30 I carried on with the task Paul Furze gave me to do. With the out of school club we started a colouring competition where the kids had to colour in some designs. This would test them on their choice of colours and staying in the lines. I also played some pool with the kids. Friday 9th July When I arrived at 9:00am I went straight to do under 5Тs drop in where I helped set out the table and chairs and putting out the toys. I had a really good time playing with the little kids and talking to some of the parents. When the kids left I helped pack away the table, chairs and toys. After my lunch I came back to the office where I added the finishing touches to my out of school club poster, draft for the out of school club and under 5Тs. I then emailed all my work to Paul Furze. Later on at 3:30 I went down to the out of school club and we watched some TV and played a few ball games which helped them with their catching and shooting in a hoop skills. The children also carried on with the colouring in competition Monday 12th July I arrived at 9:00am and helped out with the under 5Тs drop in where I helped set out the chairs, tables and toys. The kids arrived slowly and we had a different range of toys set out such as building blocks, chalks drawing and other toys. I had fun with the kids and enjoyed playing with them. At 1:30 I did some admin work, I helped with registration forms for the out of school club and I also did some corresponding work. At 3:30 when the out of school club children came we took them to Elthorne Park where they could play. We played some basketball their and the kids got really god at shooting the hoops. Tuesday 13th July I started work at 12:30pm and when I arrived I helped Emma with labeling on paper the toys and taking pictures of them in the toy cupboard. After this we went back to the office and I helped her do some photocopying and putting things together. Later on at 3:30pm I played with the out of school club. We played a very fun game of cricket where the kids learnt some catching and throwing skills. They were also able to hit the ball very well. Wednesday 14th July When I arrived at 12:30 and went to the office I carried on with admin work I also ordered some arts and crafts from. Then at 3:00 I went with Celia to pick the out of school club kids from St Josephs School. We began the session with an exercise called Сheader and catcherТ. The game relies on a lot of concentration because thereТs someone standing in the middle and if the throw the ball and say СheaderТ you have to catch the ball and if they say СcatchТ you have to header the ball. The game was difficult at first but the kids got batter and better. We then played a great game of hockey which the kids got better at controlling the ball with their sticks and they practiced the aiming and shooting. Thursday 15th July At 12:30 I arrived and carried on with the admin work. Then at 3:30pm I went to the out of school club and we took them to a fun day at St Johns Community Centre on Holland walk. The kids had a lot of fun with the different activities. They did some face painting, played on a bouncy castle, entered a colouring competition and there was arsenal shoot out board where the kids could practice their shooting and win some prizes. The kids had a very good time and I did to. My two weeks at Caxton house was very good and I enjoyed my time here. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a work placement. I have learnt a lot about the community centre and the functions of a community centre. I liked working with the kids in the under 5Тs and playing with them. I liked the out of school club with Celia and found that very fun, I enjoyed playing different games with them and taking them to the park. The staffs here were very nice and friendly.
